'In the wake of Authoritarianism', The political struggle of the nonviolent youth movement Otpor! before and after Serbia's revolution
Summary
In 2000 dictator Slobodan Milosovic was overthrown after a peaceful, nonviolent revolution in Serbia. In two years time the nonviolent youth movement Otpor! (resistance) had gathered an enormous amount of popularity with which they could resist the powerful authoritive arm of Milosevic. through methods of nonviolent struggle they overcame the agressive nature of Serbian society. However, when Milosevic was finally gone Otpor! tried to remain Serbia's watchdog trying to monitor and influence politics in Serbia without being part of it. Gradually their popularity declined because of the variety of supporters. This thesis tries to explain why Otpor! could become so big when Milosevic was there and why they could not keep their powers when he was gone.
