Multiple identities and translation challenges in The Inheritance of Loss

Abstract

The central theme of this thesis is to explore the consequences of increased mobility and dislocation on the translation of literary texts. Language and nationality are no longer unavoidably linked. Due to globalisation, migration and other societal trends, literary works and their authors demonstrate multiple identities which complicate translation. Increasingly novels represent this increased mobility through dislocation and lack of singular or easily identifiable voices.
