This article focuses on the pedagogical quality of after school programs in the Netherlands. The pedagogical quality of after school programs is very important for the development of children. The aim of this study is to examine the experienced pedagogical quality of three after school programs in the south of the Netherlands (Limburg). Six characteristics were used, namely: process, structural, child, environment, barriers and wishes. The population group consists of twelve pedagogical employees and seven parents of a parent commission. According to the article, pedagogical employees and parents think the same about the characteristics. They find the pedagogical employee-child interaction, the well-being of the child and the sphere at the after school program important. The opinions about the structural characteristics were different. The pedagogical employees find education very important, the parents find this the least important characteristic. More research with a larger population group is necessary for the generalisation of the results. It would be interesting to examine more perspectives in further research like children, location managers, scientists and other experts.
