        Summary
The focus of this study was the influence of personality and the nature of the mentoring relationship on the effectiveness of the relationship between the mentee and his mentor. To accomplice this, a questionnaire was send to employees who all were in contact with a mentor and their mentor. 31 Mentees and 26 mentors participated. Agreeableness of the mentee did have some positive association with the attitude the mentee held about the mentoring relation. Agreeableness of the mentor, and conscientiousness and emotional stability of the mentor or mentee had no direct influences on the attitude of the mentee about his mentoring relationship. The frequency and duration of the contact with the mentor did show a positive relation with the attitude of the mentee. The time spend on mentoring also influenced the relation between the personality characteristics agreeableness and conscientiousness and the attitude of the mentee to his mentoring relation. In addition the attitude of the mentee about the relationship with his mentor was related to the job satisfaction and performance of the mentee. Implications of this inquiry, strengths, weaknesses and possibilities for future research are being discussed.
