'Domus dei' and 'opus dei': the Reichenau monastery in the eighth and ninth centuries

Abstract

This thesis deals with the liturgy and architecture of an important Carolingian monastery. Material and textual sources are combined in order to gain a better understanding of monastic life in this period. At the same time, this thesis explores the methodological possibilities with regard to the combination of liturgical and architectural methods and materials in historical research.
