Comparing the revolutionary events of 1848-1851 in France, the Netherlands and the combined German states, this thesis investigates the causes of revolutionary failure. It concludes that three combined internal factors of the revolutionary process and/or the possibility of external intervention lead to the failure of a revolutionary movement.
